Summer 2014 will see the start of two new easyJet routes linking Larnaca to Liverpool and Basel.

The new routes to the UK and Switzerland are part of easyJet’s efforts to make travel easier and more accessible in Cyprus, airline executives said on Friday.

The new additions also double the number of easyJet routes out of Larnaca  and raise the number of easyJet routes from Cyprus to nine while offering flights for as little as €32.49 to Liverpool and €43.58 to Basel one way but including all taxes.

Although beginning in the summer, flights to Liverpool can already be booked while those to Basel can be reserved from April 1 next year.

Speaking to reporters, easyJet’s Europe Director Mike Campbell noted how much the company had changed over the years, going from a relatively small UK company to one on the FTSE 100.

“We are a true child of the EU, particularly since open skies policies were introduced in 1990,” he said, adding that today, 300 million people in Europe lived within one hour’s distance from an airport used by easyJet.

As well as an excellent reputation for punctual flights, Campbell said that easyJet was pleased to have made safety its number one priority. The airline also responds to passenger needs, he added, giving an example of the change where passengers are now allocated a specific seat when booking their ticket.

“Once someone tries flying with easyJet, we find that they return again and again and again,” he continued, noting that an every increasing number of business travellers were embracing the airline.

EasyJet’s Regional Grounds Operations Manager Stefanos Vakirtzis also addressed the briefing.

So far this year, easyJet has carried 537,000 passengers to and from Cyprus, a 4% increase on 2012.

The two new routes are expected to open up 597,000 seats, a 2% capacity increase.
