Cyprus has the second highest rate among EU countries of university students in the U.S., despite a marginal drop from 438 students in 2011-2012 to 425 in the past academic year, according to U.S. embassy figures.

The most popular universities for Cypriot students are Harvard, Columbia and MIT.

“The StudyUSA programme that was launched three years ago, has offer almost up to 3m dollars in scholarships from U.S. universities to Cypriots,” said Anna Argyrou, Senior Consultant at the Fulbright Commission in Nicosia.

On the other hand, there has been a 12.5 per cent increase in the number of U.S. students in Cyprus during the academic year 2012-2013, presently at 162.

The 2013 report on international students in the US and US students studying abroad has shown that there has been a 7 per cent increase of international students attending American universities.

There has been a substantial increase of international students studying in the US in 2012-2013 with figures soaring to 819,644 and a 3 per cent increase of students from the US studying abroad, rising 283,000, the report added.
