Former top 10 player Marcos Baghdatis has been confirmed as a wildcard for Auckland’s Heineken Open in January.

Greek Cypriot Baghdatis is currently ranked 86 in the world but is a fan favourite on the ATP tour.

Other new additions to the tournament include Spain’s Tommy Robredo, German Philipp Kohlschreiber and Frenchman Benoit Paire.

The trio, ranked 18, 22 and 26 in the world respectively, join fellow big names David Ferrer (3), Tommy Haas (12), John Isner (14), Kevin Anderson (20) and Gael Monfills for the tournament which takes place from January 6 to 11.

Robredo, who has played at the Auckland tournament three times before, reached the quarterfinals of the French and US Opens this year, as well as the third round at Wimbledon.

Kolschreiber, meanwhile, will return in an attempt to win the tournament after losing the 2013 final to Ferrer.

“To have a field featuring five players in the world’s top 20 is an outstanding success,” tournament director Karl Budge said.
