The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs has called on the international community to address Ankara`s statement that “there is no state called Cyprus”.
The Ministry’s Spokesman Constantinos Koutras commenting on the Turkish Prime Minister`s statement that there is no state called Cyprus, pointed out that disputing the existence of the Cyprus Republic must alert the international community as regard Ankara`s real intentions on the Cyprus problem.
Cyprus has been divided since 1974 when Turkey invaded and occupied its northern third.
Turkey does not recognize the Republic of Cyprus as a sovereign state, the only member of the UN to fail to do so
UN-backed negotiations between the Greek Cypriot and the Turkish Cypriot communities on the island have so far failed to yield results.
