Bulgarian Ivaylo Petev was named as the new head coach of Cypriot football team AEL Limassol. Earlier this month, Petev made headlines after he was revealed as the new coach of Bulgarian Levski Sofia, but a mob of angry fans stripped him at the press conference, resulting in his departure the following day.

Petev lead Ludogorets Razgrad to 2 consecutive Bulgarian League titles, before being replaced in the summer by Stoycho Stoev. Petev’s contract with AEL will be until the summer of 2015.

AEL are fourth in the Cypriot league with 11 points from six matches, four points behind leaders Anorthosis Famagusta and Angolan coach Vidigal was criticised for the team’s mediocre performances.

Last year, AEL won their sixth league title and reached the Champions League’s group stage after knocking out Linfield, Partizan Belgrade and Anderlecht in the preliminary rounds.
