Marcos is through to the second round of the Swiss Indoors Basel after beating qualifier Benjamin Becker 7-6(8), 6-1 on Tuesday.

Marcos claimed his 15th win of the season as he prevailed in one hour and 32 minutes. Becker showed strong resistance in the first set, rallying from an early break deficit to force a deciding tie-break. Becker denied Marcos two set points before Marcos clinched the set at his third opportunity, closing down the net to force the error from Becker.

In a more comfortable second set, Marcos won 69 per cent of his service points and broke Becker twice. It was his second win over the German, having also prevailed when they met in the Australian Open first round last year.

Marcos goes on to challenge either top seed Juan Martin del Potro or local wild card Henri Laaksonen on Thursday.
