Marcos was beaten in a close first-round contest at the Kremlin Cup on Tuesday in Moscow. In one hour and 46 minutes, Marcos fell 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 to Russian Evgeny Donskoy.

Marcos was denied on six of the eight break point opportunities he created and was broken three times himself as he suffered his 14th first-round loss of the season. Donskoy goes on to play top seed Richard Gasquet for a place in the quarter-finals.

Marcos will look to bounce back next week at the Swiss Indoors Basel, where he was runner-up on his 2005 debut, losing to Fernando Gonzalez. The ATP World Tour 500 event boasts a strong line-up, led by Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, Tomas Berdych and Juan Martin del Potro.
