Limassol: Man dies when digger he was driving fell into ditch

A 51 one year old man was killed on Saturday morning when the digger he was driving fell into a 10 metre ditch, crushing him to death.
The accident occurred around 10 am between the communities of Alectora and Pissouri. The victim is Panayiotis Sofocleous, from Anogira and a permanent resident of Paphos.
Head of Limassol CID Ioannis Soteriades said the accident occurred as the victim and his son were placing manure on the field.
“In his attempt to reverse with the digger, he fell into a 10 metre ditch and was crushed. He died instantly,” Soteriades said.
Fire services of the Republic and the British Bases freed the man from under the digger and he was taken to Limassol Hospital where doctors certified his death.
Soteriades appealed to all farmers, particularly those working with vehicles to be particularly careful as they go about their work. “It is such a pity to leave home to earn their living and not to come back,” he said.
