First Division

Apoel 0 Cetinkaya Cinar 5

The shock of the day was this particular game Last year’s runner up getting hammered by Cetinkaya Cinar. Cinar picked themselves up from last week’s defeat and scored on 23 minutes. A fantastic 35 yard free kick from Sheldon Hussey beating the keeper with a stunning low shot, 0-1. 3 minutes later Cinar made it 2, when Salih crossed into the box and Volkan’s glancing header left the keeper standing. Now  with Cinar in total control the third was inevitable as Cem Cemal raced on to a through ball beating the Apoel keeper as he came out, 0-3.

Cem cemal scored his brace on 54 minutes and Apoel  did their utmost to keep the score respectable, but Kevin Smith scored his first goal for Cinar with a neatly placed low shot for 0-5.

Livadia 2 Tripimeni 6

Steve Cinotti manager of Tripimeni must be pleased with this result as he waited for a return game to overcome last year’s defeat to first division newcomers Livadia who they lost to 2-0 in last year’s challenge Cup final. Tripimeni were 4-0 up at half time with their first goal coming in the 15th minute with a great goal by Ahmet Rifat who hit the ball first time on the turn. He added a second in the 20th minute. George Gregoriou the third and Darren Gray scoring the fourth.

After the break Zeki scored the fifth for Tripimeni. Livadia then made it 5-1 with a goal from Adem Ali. Leon Fisher made it 6-1 before Livadia scored in the last minute with Matt Taylor making it 6-2 leaving Tripimeni sharing top spot with New Salamis and Rizokarpasso.

Komi Kebir 1 Rizokarpasso 3

Newly promoted Komi Kebir are finding it difficult to find their feet in the first division suffering their second defeat in as many games. Rizokarpasso were 3-0 up with Ricardo scoring twice in the 30th and 50th minutes and Nick Nicou scoring in the 60th minute. Komi Kebir were able to get a goal back in added time with a fine header from defender Dino Chrysostomou, who seems to be now getting his name on the score sheet regularly.

Aradippou 0 Omonia 5

What a revelation Omonia are this season with their first win of the season and very convincing it was too. Aradippou are having a difficult time with two losses on the trot and need to get back on their feet. Omonia’s goals came from Alexandros 2, Thompson, Yiannis and Edmund.

New Salamis 1 Olympia 0

Olympia have brought a breath of fresh air to the first division with the youngest manager in the League 24 year old Chris Zacharias. They really gave Champions New Salamis a fright they played with enthusiasm and it took seventy minutes for the reds to break the deadlock. New Salamis player Dean Fenton went on a run from inside his own half and crossed it forcing an Olympia defender to make an error and score an own goal.  Olympia tried fighting back with no avail. I was very impressed with Olympia and I can see them improving as the season goes on.

Second Division

Arachne 8 All Saints 2

Arachne continues where they finished off last season on a winning note by beating League newcomers All Saints. This win leaves Arachne top of the second division unbeaten after two games and two wins. All Saints still to win and share bottom of the table place with Pantel.

All Saints held their own in the first half when the score ended 3-2. The second half was one sided with Arachne well in control.

Arachne’s goals came from Adams 4, Chris Constantinides 2, John Holmes 1 and Antoni Panayi 1.

Both All Saints goals were scored by Costas Chrysanthou.

Maronites 3 Anorthosis 3

What a scorcher of a game this was. Anorthosis thought they had the game in the bag, they were coasting 3-0 half time. Anorthosis led the scoring from the tenth minute with Alex Roussis . Then youngster Stephanos Stephanides added a second in the 35th minute and just before the break Nick Erodotou added a third . Second half Maronites took Anorthosis by surprise they brought on substitutes Tom Boxer and Dino Costa this seem to motivate them. Their first two goals were penalties in the 55th and 62nd minutes scored by Lewis Barclay. Then in the 88th minute Tom Boxer scored an absolute scorcher with a shot from twenty yards. Even with few minutes left there was still goal mouth action in both teams’ areas with Anorthosis hitting the bar in one instance.

Brotherhood 5 Pantel 0

There’s no letting up for Brotherhood, I can see plenty of goals coming their way. They have the might of Paul Yiannakas in midfield providing the ammunition for their super striker Aaron Kennedy who scored four goals and Paul Yiannakas one. Aaron Kennedy has now gone on to score 101 goals in his fifth season at Brotherhood. This win puts Brotherhood at the top of the second division level on points with Arachne. Pantel are having problems at the moment and are slowly recovering after losing several key players.

Asha 1 Pendayia 1

Both teams looking for their first win of the season they were giving it all. In the first half both teams were playing pretty football. Asha surprised me they played one touch football and the players were continually moving into positions to be able to receive the ball. So it was no shock when they took the lead in the 20th minute when Harry crossed it for Jordan to tap it into the back of the net.

Second half Pendayia came out battling and closing down on Asha to make it difficult to pass and control the game. Pendayia kept the pressure on and were able to equalise in the 80th minute with a cool goal from Sam Menari.

Cyprus Youth 0 Achna 2

There was a great attendance for this game KLN  were up against a much improved Achna team who have made  quiet a few good new signings with ex New Salamis players James Chrysanthou and Justin Zacharia at the helm.

Even so with these big signings Achna struggled to beat KLN who again though they lost last years main man Rio they have signed new players and are looking good. The game was pretty even with both teams cancelling each other out. The killer came right at the end when within two minutes Achna scored twice first in the 77th minute with Larry Bedrako who dribblesd past two players before slotting the ball home. The second in the 78th minute with Lenos Christodoulou giving Achna their second win on the trot and unbeaten  putting them in third spot in the second division.
