Haringey Borough do well in FA Vase
HARINGEY BOROUGH 6 WELLINGBOROUGH TOWN 2
Saturday September 21st 2013 FA Carlsberg Vase 2nd Qualifying Round
Borough seized immediate control of the match when defensive hesitancy between the visitors ‘keeper and a defender was all the encouragement Dean Fenton needed to nip in and lob the ball gently into the top corner after only 4 minutes play. Just three minutes later Darrell Cox moved smoothly onto a through ball to slide the ball home neatly for the second from some 15 yards out. Last weeks double goal-scoring full back hero Charles Douse then got in on the act, again profiting from a corner but not with his head this time, as he pounced on a loose ball to finish off a lengthy scramble in front of goal. Wellingborough did come more into the game after that and forced Borough ‘keeper Erbil Bozkurt to show his mettle with a fine leap to his right to claw away a close range effort from right under the angle of bar and post; Wellingborough should have reduced the arrears when an effort just a couple of yards out was ballooned over and high into the allotments. After the interval Cox again took advantage of defensive blunders to finish coolly for the fourth just three minutes into the half. But if Borough thought they were home and dry they were quickly disabused of that idea for as they let their concentration slip the visitors took full advantage with Jason Turner bustling through in the 52nd minute to drive home from close range and then netting an unstoppable blast from the penalty spot following a handling offence three minutes later. Had “The Doughboys” scored a third there would have been tense times for Borough but fortunately they raised their game to its earlier level and Fenton put the game effectively out of the visitors reach with the 5th goal after 64 minutes and it may well be a contender for goal of the season as he hit a first time shot from some 20 yards which arrowed into the top corner before ‘keeper Jamie Brassington, who had done well to keep the score down, had scarcely moved. Manager Tom Loizou then sent on two full backs with the need for further goals now removed and the Borough lead never seemed in any real danger after that. In the last minute of normal time, Fenton completed his hat trick from close range after the ‘keeper had parried his first effort. The First Round Proper will be drawn on Monday 23rd and played on 19th October.
