First day of football in Cyprus surprises

Anorthosis beat Omonia in an exciting match on the first day of the Football League in Cyprus at the Antonis Papadopoulos stadium.UK Cypriot Jason Demetriou started the ball rolling with a long distance shot that went straight into the back of the net in the 62nd minute. Omonia equalised in the 86th minute with a tap in from Gikevits.

In added time it got more exciting when Anorthosis surprised the crowd with two goals from Phofana and Kalouti to give Anorthosis an important 3-1 win.

The biggest surprise of the day was first division newcomers AEK Kouklion making their first appearance in the first division defeating AEK Larnaca 2-1. their first goal came in the 14th minute with a goal from Stapolef . The Larnaca team equalised in the 27th minute with a goal from Kabala before Vrasikaa scored the important second goal in the 48th minute giving AEK Kouklion an historical win.
