Apoel and Apollon off to a good start
Champions APOEL and cup holders Apollon made a good start to the new season last night with wins over Enosis Neo Paralimniou and Ermis respectively.
The Nicosia team dominated play at the GSP, managing a 3-0 victory that came with more difficulty than the score line would suggest.
Vinicius scored his first goal for APOEL in the 57th minute, while Constantinos Charalambides (86th) and Joao Guilherme (stoppage time) made it 3-0, both with free kicks. APOEL also hit the woodwork in stoppage time and had several missed chances in front of goal.
Enosis mounted a stiff defence, but were forced to open up after going down 1-0 and missed a great opportunity of equalising in the 75th after failing to take advantage of a save by Urko Pardo.
Apollon, fresh from having qualified for the Europa group stages for the first time managed a narrow 1-0 win over Ermis with Roberto Garcia.
Clearly tired by the game in Nice last Thursday, Apollon were mediocre and Ermis could have stolen a draw from Tsirion.
But the Limassolians were able to celebrate their victory in their first league game when Garcia headed in from close up.
