Arrivals of tourists in Cyprus decreased by 5.8% for the period January – July 2013, compared to the corresponding period last year. Moreover, residents of Cyprus traveling abroad decreased in July 2013 by 11.3%, compared to the corresponding month in 2012.

The data were released on Thursday by the Statistical Service of the Republic of Cyprus.
On the basis of the results of the Passengers Survey, arrivals of tourists reached 361,442 in July 2013 compared to 371,453 in July 2012, recording a decrease of 2.7%.
A decrease of 40% was recorded in tourist arrivals from Germany (7,677 in July 2013 compared to 12,785 in July 2012), 27% decrease from Greece (11,205 compared to 15,355) and 6.5% decrease from the United Kingdom (132,566 compared to 141,782 last year).

However, an increase of 21.9% in tourist arrivals was recorded from Russia, from 79,278 in July 2012 to 96,641 in July 2013.

The number of Cyprus residents who returned from a trip abroad in July 2013 recorded a decrease of 11.3% (116,321 passengers compared to 131,096 in the corresponding month last year).

The Passengers Survey also shows that in July 2013 there was an increase of 9.5% of the trips of residents to Russia, from 3,765 in July 2012 to 4,123 in July 2013, while there was a decrease of 17% on the trips to Greece, from 53,933 in 2012 compared to 44,757 this year).
