Marcos will face Japanese qualifier Go Soeda in the first round of the US Open. Soeda dropped just one set in three qualifying matches to earn his place in the main draw at Flushing Meadows.

The US Open gets underway on Monday in New York. Marcos will be making his eighth appearance in the Big Apple and is bidding to get past the second round for the first time. Marcos defeated the No. 132-ranked Soeda in their only previous meeting at last year’s London 2012 Olympics on grass.

Should Marcos advance, he would face a second-round contest with either No. 17 seed Kevin Anderson or Daniel Brands. Should he reach the third round, he would face a likely contest with No. 9 seed Stanislas Wawrinka, with the winner seeded to meet No. 5 Tomas Berdych in the fourth round.
