A MAN needed emergency surgery after allegedly being bitten by a dangerous dog in Potters Bar, police have revealed.
Today (Monday) officers released an appeal calling for information about the out-of-control mutt, a brown Staffordshire bull terrier.
It is believed that the victim, a 68-year-old man, stepped in to protect his own dog, which was attacked by the terrier, in Oakmere Park.
The drama unfolded between 6.30am and 7.30am on Saturday, July 27.
The man suffered serious injuries and spent three days in hospital after emergency surgery.
He is believed to have been bitten in the leg.
The dog’s owner is described as a white woman, aged between 30 and 40.
She is believed to walk her dog regularly in the area, and the dog is thought to be called Alfie.
PC Courtney Turner, investigating, said: “I would like to speak to anyone who saw or who knows anything about this incident as soon as possible.
“Or if you recognise the description of the woman, please also get in touch with me.”
