Driver who died on Saturday in Winchmore Hill named

A MINICAB driver who died in an accident in the early hours of Saturday morning has been identified.

Police were called to the crash near the junction of Aldemans Hill and Green Lanes, Palmers Green, between a green Ford Galaxy cab, a black BMW 3 series and a 29 bus.

The minicab driver, 54-year-old Ahmet Vural from Edmonton, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A post-mortem gave the cause of death as head and chest injuries. An inquest was opened today at Barnet Coroner’s Court.

The driver of the BMW, a 24-year-old man, was taken to an east London hospital. Police say he remains in hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening. He was arrested in connection with the collision and bailed until early September.

A passenger in the minicab, a man in his 40s, was taken to a north London hospital for treatment and later discharged.

The Road Death Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath Traffic Garage is investigating the circumstances of the accident. Any witnesses are asked to call 020 8597 4874.
