With two weeks to go before the primary election, Costas Constantinides, who is running to be the first Greek and Cypriot-American to be elected to New York’s City Council, focused on an issue that is near and dear to the hearts of the community: their children’s education. Constantinides held a press conference on Aug. 26 at P.S. 151 near the edge of eastern Astoria to highlight conditions he said threaten the quality of public school education in Queens – the gathering took place before the unsightly and uninspiring trailers that were meant to be “temporary” classrooms but which have scarred the school’s playground for 16 years.
