An Enfield biking sensation who might small in years, has lofty ambitions of a British title.

UK Cypriot Joseph Katsantonis, 3, Avalon Close, Enfield has been training hard ahead of his biggest race to date at the Birmingham BMX track on Wednesday, August 21.

If Joseph is triumphant, he will qualify for the Strider British Balance Bike Championships at the home of cycling, the National Cycling Centre in Manchester on September 22.

The Enfield prodigy could represent Great Britain in World Championships stage at the Sarasota BMX track, Florida in October if he can beat hundreds of other children aged 18 months to five years old, all vying for the top spot.

Joseph’s mother Amii said: “Joseph competed last month in Kent and he made us so proud. Winning first place in three out of his four races was an absolute surprise. He enjoyed every minute of it, and looks forward to every competition. We are all excited to see his outcome at the Birmingham race!”

Melanie Thomas, Strider British Balance Bike Championships organiser said: “The events are open to anyone, no matter their ability, with opportunities to train and ride at organised coaching sessions before the big day. They are designed to be exciting, yet safe, environments for children to explore and play on two wheels, with the added enjoyment of racing.”
