Cyprus President Nicos Anastasiades will announce Friday a scheme aiming at hiring Cypriot employees at the tourist industry, Minister of Commerce, Industry and Tourism Giorgos Lakkotrypis has said.
President Anastasiades is scheduled to present a set of measures aiming at kick-starting the economy, following a Eurogroup decision for a €10-billion financial assistance package for Cyprus.
Speaking before the Parliamentary Committee on Trade and Industry, Lakkotrypis the formula discussed during meetings between hoteliers and the Minister of Labour and Social Insurance Zeta Aimilianidou provides for 70% Cypriots and 30% foreign employees at the tourist industry, combined with the extension of the tourist season in Cyprus.
This is an innovative plan to be funded by EU funds, the Minister added.
Furthermore, Lakkotrypis recalled that the government has decided to go ahead with a casino resort noting that the government will consider whether it will grant one or two casino licenses.
He also said that President Anastasiades will announce an incentive scheme aiming at accelerating the construction of golf courses in Cyprus.
