Football hooliganis struck again on Saturday in both Nicosia and Larnaca after their teams APOEL and Anorthosis suffered resounding defeats in the first game in the playoffs of the championship.In Nicosia two football fans were arrested and police resorted to limited use of tear gas outside APOEL fans clubhouse in Nicosia after the game to disperse youngsters who threw stones at cars and Molotov bombs at police, Sigma television reported. One officer sustained burns and was taken to hospital. Media reports said there had been trouble before the match, which leaders APOEL lost 3-0.
In Larnaca several cars belonging to Anorthosis football players were damaged. Anorthosis fans threw stones outside the team’s stadium, with media reports saying seven policemen were slightly injured.
