Disabled people needing to adapt their homes can apply for a slice of more than £1,000,000 given to Enfield Borough Council.

The minister of state for housing and local government, Mark Prisk, announced this week that £1,155,717 will be reserved for people needing modifications including wider doorways, stair lifts, ramps and accessible showers.

The cash forms part of the Government’s £180million Disabled Facilities Grant which will be divided among local authorities throughout the UK this year.

The neighbouring borough of Haringey is due to receive £840,717, and £874,717 has been allocated to nearby Barnet.

Disabled homeowners, private tenants, or council tenants can apply for the grant through the council, which will arrange for an occupational therapist to visit their home to assess what adaptations are needed.

A further £185 million is expected to be allocated to UK authorities in next year’s funding
