A huge fire almost completely destroyed a semi-detached house in East Barnet yesterday afternoon.

The property was unoccupied when it became engulfed by the blaze, which began at 4.45pm in Northumberland Road.

A total of 35 firefighters in six engines spent more than two hours fighting the flames and continued to monitor and damp down the scene until 11.40pm.

The first floor and roof of the home were completely destroyed in the fire and the ground floor suffered extensive damage.

A small part of the adjoining house was also damaged.

Fire investigators are now working to establish the cause of the blaze
