Apoel took once step closer to winning the title with a narrow 1-0 victory over AEK Larnaca on Sunday.
The Nicosia team are now eight points ahead of second place and looking set to obtain the club’s 22nd league title.
AEK failed to capitalize on the draw between Anorthosis and Omonia and stay in fourth place.
The game was settled by a stunning Mario Sergio direct free kick on the 63rd minute after AEK had wasted several goof chnaces to take the lead with goalkeeper Pardo keeping them out.
The closest Apoel came before the goal was a Charalambides efforst that struck the post with 27 minutes on the clock.
