Murder investigation launched after Finsbury Park assault victim dies

A murder investigation has been launched after a man assaulted in Finsbury Park on Tuesday night died in hospital today, Thursday 21 March.

Detectives from Homicide and Serious Crime Command are now investigating and are appealing for witnesses and information.

Police were called at approx. 19:50hrs on Tuesday, 19 March to Isledon Road, N7 to reports of an unconscious male in the street.

The 45-year-old man had sustained a serious head injury – believed following an assault – and was taken to the Royal London Hospital. He later died at approx. 19:00hrs on Thursday, 21 March. Next of kin are aware.

A post mortem examination is scheduled for 13:00hrs on Friday, 22 March.

Whilst officers believe they know who the deceased is they await the formal identification to be completed before naming him.

An incident room has opened in Barking under Detective Chief Inspector Neil Attewell.

Any witnesses or anyone with any information that could assist police are asked to call the incident room on 020 8345 1583 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

+ At approx. 06:00hrs on Thursday, 21 March a 35-year-old man was arrested in connection with the investigation and taken into custody at a north London police station. Following the death of the victim the man was further arrested on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody.
