Marcos will open his BNP Paribas Open campaign against a qualifier. The draw for the first ATP World Tour Masters 1000 tournament of the season was made on Tuesday in Indian Wells, and gave Marcos a potential second-round clash with 20th-seeded Italian Andreas Seppi.
Marcos is in the same section of the draw as ninth seed Janko Tipsarevic, No. 30 Mikhail Youzhny and two-time former champion Rafael Nadal, who is the fifth seed. In arguably the toughest quarter of the draw, there is also defending champion Roger Federer, last year’s runner-up John Isner, two-time former winner Lleyton Hewitt, and Swiss No. 18 seed Stanislas Wawrinka.
Marcos reached the quarter-finals on his Indian Wells debut in 2006, and also recorded one of his greatest victories three years ago in the desert when he defeated Roger Federer en route to the fourth round.
