Maronites 4 Apoel 9
Championship hopefuls Apoel thought it was going to be an easy ride against lowly Maronites. Marcus Archer scored first for Maronites after ten minutes. Apoel showed their experience with an immediate reply with a goal from Winston, then two from Alex Roussis and then another goal 5 minutes later from Jason Mason to make it 4-1 within a spell of twenty minutes.
Maronites kept battling and in the 40th and 42nd minute they responded with two goals from Lewis Barclay one a penalty and the other an 18 yard curler.
Again Apoel showed their experience with a goal in added time of the first half to make it 5-3 with a goal from Michael Spencer.
In the second half Apoel were hungry for a goal to increase their goal difference and were having constant attacking waves. Maronites wouldn’t give up though! Apoel increased their lead to 8-3 with their scorers Vas Krisikos, Alex Roussis and Jason Mason . Apoels defence was exposed as they kept pressing to increase their goal difference so Maronites had a wave of attacks and deserved a goal from James Aubern making it 8-4. Apoel then scored again to make it 9-4with Alex Roussis giving him a personal tally for the game of four goals. This result leaves Apoel second placed In the first division table level on points with New Salamis who have a superior goal average.
Cetinkaya Cinar 4 Brotherhood 0
A very competitive game with the early chances going to Brotherhood with the half ending 0-0. The second half went Cinars way when in the 58th minute Sheldon sent a long pass to Marcus Samuals whose low left footed shot made it 1-0. Cinar’s second goal came in the 76th minute, as Hasan Ali headed an Evren Altinok corner, 2-0. With relegation looming, Brotherhood heads now dropped and with 11 minutes remaining Cinar keeper Remzi’s long kick was chased by Evren Altinok whose half volley left the Brotherhood keeper with no chance, 3-0. 2 minutes later a replica of the third goal came when Remzi’s kick this time was met by Cem Cemal who coolly tucked his low shot away for 4-0. A great game of football but unfortunately for Brotherhood this was a must win game.
Tripimeni 2 Rizokarpasso 2
Rizokarpasso pulled all the shots for this game and probably put a stop to Tripimeni’s chances of winning the League. They took the lead with a well taken goal from their super striker Anthony Macdonald Tripmeni then equalised with a goal from Sam Bartram but again Rizokarpasso took the lead with Anthony Macdonald scoring a second to take a 2-1 lead into the break. Sam Bartram must have got jealous and he added a second to his tally finishing the game 2-2. Tripimeni midfield player Darren Gray was sent off in the 60th minute.
Komi Kebir 3 Arachne 0
This was the match of the day with both teams second division promotion hopeful’s with either not affording to lose. Komi took the lead in the 25th minute with an unbelievable team goal. Andy
Zavros released Peter down the wing with a 40 yard pass who first time crossed it for Mario Seyho to volley in an unstoppable shot. It was a midfield battle. When they did break Komi’s line Aris Hadjikkou made a one on one save to go into the half time break leading.
The second goal came from Volkan in the 55th minute that broke the offside trap and he finished well. It got more painful for Arachne when in the 65th minute a good passing move was finished off by the captain Andy Kyprianides to give Komi their third goal.
In the 80th minute Arachne were awarded a penalty that was saved by the Komi keeper Aris that put the stoppers on Arachne who drop to fourth place Komi Kebir remain in second place one point behind Livadia.
Omonia 4 Pendayia 1
Pendayia took the lead as they usually do with a brilliant goal in the 10th minute from Vas Nicou a half volley from thirty yards. Omonia equalised a minute later with Alex Anderson, Omonia’s second was an own goal and Allesandro scored with a flying header in the 30th minute to give Omonia a 3-1 lead . Omonia’s fourth goal came late in the game again a headed goal from Allesandro Birri who was probably the shortest player on the pitch. If Omonia win their games in hand they could be fighting for promotion.
Anorthosis 1 Livadia 3
Anorthosis started well and went ahead with a distant volley from their French player Nicholas Gervais to make it 1-0 after 10 minutes this goal motivated them and they were playing some very good football probably the best I have seen from them all season. Livadia managed to equalise with a goal from Matthew Demetriades. It stayed 1-1 for a long time Anorthosis had a great chance to score however stand in goalkeeper and manager Nick Demetriades prevented Anorthosis going ahead. In the 70th minute however it took Livadia top scorer Adam Ali to put Livadia ahead with a fine individual goal and Vince Rispoli added a third to finish the game with Livadia 3-1 winners who remain on top of the second division.
Asha 0 Cyprus Youth (KLN) 2
Asha started brightly but in form Cyprus Youth player Luke Papacosta scored a sweet half volley after 10 minutes from a Mario Charalambides cross from the right. Chris Papacosta went close also moments later after beautifully controlling a through ball from Luke Papacosta but the Asha goalkeeper made a great save with his feet. Much improved Asha came back into the game and finished the half strongly. Second half KLN came out again and put pressure on Ashas back line and on 55 minutes new signing Nick Pallias scored a wonder free kick from just outside the right hand side of the penalty box. Nick sweetly curled the ball in with pace into the top left hand corner clipping the underside of the crossbar before going in. Credit to Asha’s young spirited side, they rallied well and continued to press however KLN held out for a comfortable 2-0 win. This win pushes Cyprus Youth into third place.
Pantel 3 Achna 3
Achna are now finding their feet and they have had some good results recently and it was no surprise they drew with Pantel. The game was really exciting Achna took the lead after five minutes with Alex , Pantel equalised in the 30th minute with Reggie. The second half Achna really went to town and were leading 3-1 with goals from Theo and Andrew Kyriacou. It looked as if it was going to stay that way till a late comeback from Pantel with goals from Alex and Larry resulted in the game ending 3-3.
