A NEW godfather who drank too much at a post christening party has been banned from driving for 16 months.
Jordan Agar, 28, of Woodside, Cheshunt, was stopped by police as he drove home and found to be nearly twice over the drink drive limit.
Tamsin Sharp, prosecuting, told Chelmsford Magistrates Court that Agar freely admitted to police when they pulled over his Volksvagen Caddy at 1.20 am that he had been drinking at a christening party three hours earlier.
Agar pleaded guilty to drink driving at Buckhurst Hill on February 18, with 60 mgs of alcohol in 100 mls of breath – the legal limit being 35 mgs.
The court banned him from driving for 16 months and imposed a £350 fine, £85 costs and £35 victim surcharge.
Daniel Bonich, mitigating, said Agar had been godfather at a christening and had cooperated with police when arrested so that no handcuffs were needed.
Agar had showed clear remorse, said Mr Bonich, and was “deeply ashamed because of his stupidity and naivety.”
Mr Bonich said that Agar was an area manager for the DM Group services, a family business, working unsociable hours and a driving ban would effect his working practice.
