Edgar Davids said he was proud of Barnet’s performance after the Bees recorded a 2-0 win at Underhill against Fleetwood Town.

A goal from Mark Byrne put Barnet ahead in the opening period and a second half strike from Luke Gambin sealed an important victory for the Bees.

A pleased Davids said: “After the two away losses it is always good to bounce back and especially when it is at home.

“They tried to put us under pressure but we got away from that because we were tactically better positioned than in our last two games.

“The lads performed very well and they stepped up. So I am very happy that the side showed a strong backbone.”

He continued: “Everybody is on the same page and I am really proud with how the team performed against a top side.

“We had three players that were sick but the guys that came in did well. I saw the old Barnet that fought for every ball and that played tactically and positionally well.”

Davids had to be content with a place in the dugout after the Bees appeal against the red card the Dutch international received against Accrington Stanley was turned down by The FA.

The former Juventus midfielder admitted he was frustrated he couldn’t take part in the match, especially as the Bees had several players missing due to injury and illness.

He explained: “I thought, as did others, it was mistaken identity. Therefore it was a bit harsh. It is harsh the way The FA is conducting it. They don’t listen to common sense.

“Not playing is hard because you want to be a part of the team, especially when we needed every player available.

“I thought it was an unfair red card as well so that added a little bit more salt into the wound
