Τhe leader of the bank employees union, ETYK, has said bank employees are awaiting a decision of the Central Bank on when banks will reopen.
ETYK secretary general Loizos Hadikostis said all employees, including the staff of Laiki Bank which is to be split into good and part banks, will be back at work as soon as the Central Bank gives the signal.
He added that employees are ready to work beyond their normal hours to help people in a bid to restore calm in the banking system.
Hadjicostis said that no dismissal notices have been given to Laiki employees and warned that ETYK will not accept any lay offs.
He said that staff reduction has to be effected accoring to a plan which must be first be made known to employees.
Hadjicostis said that provident funds have been safeguarded by legislation passed by parliament but hid did not not exclude the possibility of provident funds in the Bank of Cyprus to undergo a haircut
