Cyprus President Demetris Christofias leaves Tuesday for Athens where he will pay his last official visit as President of the Republic, Government Spokesman Stephanos Stephanou has said.

In statements to the press, after a meeting of the Council of Ministers, Stephanou said that this is Christofias’ last official visit abroad, recalling that his first official visit abroad after he assumed his duties as President was in Athens.

“The reason for that is well understood. Greek is our main supporter, we have an excellent cooperation with Greece at all levels and we believe that during the last five years these relations have been enhanced even more,” he added.

During his visit, Christofias will have meetings with his Greek counterpart Karolos Papoulias, the Greek Prime Minister Antonis Samaras, the President of the Hellenic Parliament Evangelos Meimarakis, the President of SYRIZA Alexis Tsipras, the President of PASOK Evangelos Venizelos, the President of party “Independent Greeks” Panagiotis Kammenos, the President of the Democratic Left Party Fotis Kouvelis and the General Secretary of the Communist Party of Greece Aleka Papariga.

He will return home Wednesday morning.
