Outgoing President of the Republic Demetris Christofias has contacted President elect Nicos Anastasiades.

An official press release says that President Christofias telephoned Anastasiades at 1900 local time (1700 GMT) and congratulated him on his election to the Presidency of the Republic.

Anastasiades secured 57.48% of the vote, making him the seventh president of the Republic of Cyprus.
