Marcos was beaten in the quarter-finals of the ABN AMRO World Tennis Tournament on Friday, falling to doubles partner Grigor Dimitrov, 6-7(4), 7-6(0), 6-3.
Marcos led 7-6(4), 6-5, having rallied from an early break down in the second set, but saw Dimitrov seize the momentum with a run of 18 straight points. The Bulgarian held serve to love, won the tie-break, and opened up a 1-0, 40/0 lead on Marcos’ serve in the deciding set. Marcos recovered for deuce, but Dimitrov won the next two points to snatch the break.
Marcos had chances to break back midway through the set, but could not capitalise and the 21-year-old Dimitrov went on to secure his second win over Marcos this season in two hours and 31 minutes. Dimitrov also beat Marcos in the semi-finals of the Brisbane International in the first week of the season.
Next up for Marcos will be the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, which starts on Monday 25 February.
