Only half the young people eligible to register for the first time to vote have actually done so. The head of the election service, Demetris Demetriou, said that of around 25,000 eligible people, just 12,733 had applied. Those born after 1990 are entitled to apply. A total of 2,752 applied on the last day. The overall total is 3,000 lower than in 2008. As for overseas voting, 10,600 applications were received with another 3,000 online applicants waiting to be processed.
