FOUR individuals wielding bats and what appears to be a fake pistol, yesterday robbed a Limassol jewellery shop, taking expensive watches, gold items and diamonds worth thousands of euros.
Police said the heist took place just after 5pm. They said one of the perpetrators posed as a customer – dressed in a suit – to fool the staff into opening the controlled entrance to the shop.
As soon as the door opened, three hooded individuals, wielding bats and a pistol, rushed inside, threatening the owner and two female employees. The robbers smashed the glass display cases, taking a number of watches and jewellery.
The owner tried to stop them, succeeding in snatching back part of the loot and removing one perpetrator’s hood.
The robbers hit the owner before fleeing, but after dropping what appeared to be a replica of a pistol during the fracas.
One of the thieves left on foot while the other three abandoned the scene in a car that was parked behind the shop. The owner was treated in hospital and released.
Police were looking at the footage from the security cameras, which recorded the facial features of a couple of the perpetrators.
