First Division
Apoel 6 Olympia 1
The clash of the day was League leaders Apoel versus Olympia who were leading one nil with a goal scored by Sam in the 10th minute. Apoel got back into the game and were leading 2-1 by half time with both their goals coming from their super striker Andreas Paphitis whose second came after a great dribble past three players to then force the ball past the oncoming keeper..
Straight after the break Olympia had a player sent off and then had a player carried off which they never had a substitute to replace so were down to ten men. After that it was all one way traffic with Apoel increasing their lead to 6-1 with the other goals coming from Theo Daniel, Kyri Kyprianou, Lawrence and Spencer.
New Salamis 5 Maronites 1
Maronites fared better this week versus League Champions New Salamis after last week’s 9-0 drabbing from Salamina and reduced the score this time to 5-1.
The Red’s goals came from Dougie Morton 2, Chris Benjamin 2, and one from Nick Kitipos. Maronite’s lone goal came from Tom Boxer.
AEL 0 Tripimeni 1
AEL really put up a fight against Tripimeni on Sunday at Wadham Lodge considering they only had ten players and they did well to hold Steve Cinotti’s team to one nil.
Tripimeni’s only goal was a real classic 25 yard thunderbolt goal from 18 year old midfielder Remi Rifat .
Second Division
Komi Kebir 2 Livadia 0
Komi Kebir seem to be upsetting all the top teams, last week they drew with KLN , this week they defeated second in the table Livadia to whom they had previously lost both their games this season in the league and cup respectively.
The first goal came in the 30th minute with a cracking twenty five yard shot from former Brotherhood player Chris Ierotheou. Komi increased their lead in the 80th minute with a Mario Seyho header. This win puts Komi Kebir in fourth spot.
Cyprus Youth (KLN) 2 Omonia 2
Another surprise was Omonia drawing with second division leaders Cyprus Youth. Omonia are a much improved side under manager Tony Kromidias and i can see them rising up the league table. KLN scored first when a free kick from Adam Mckinnon in the 25th minute was headed in by Rio Brian. Omonia fought back and were leading 2-1 into the half time break with a header from Adrian Campbell and a short distance shot from Chris Charalambous.
There was action in both goal mouths in the second half and it was left for KLN to equalise in the dying minutes with a low header from Rio Brian.
Pantel 4 Asha 1
Asha who were the second division leaders at one stage this season cannot get back to winning ways they took the lead with Mem in the 25th minute but they could not hold the momentum. Pantel equalised just before the break with Laki Kyriakou who also scored a second in the 55th minute. Pantel were playing with confidence and increased their lead to 4-1 with an Andrew Kitipo goal in the 65th minute and an own goal in the closing minutes.
LFA Intermediate Cup
Third Round
Pendayia 1 Brotherhood 0
There was a surprise in the LFA Intermediate Cup this weekend as Second Divison Pendayia advanced to the next round at the expense of First Division Brotherhood.
The game started off fairly evenly with both sides having their fair share of chances but struggling to breakdown their oppositions tough backlines. The first chance of the half came from Brotherhood, when a cross from the left found a wide open Paul Yiannakas, but his header came back off the post and with Pendayia struggling to clear the box, a follow up shot had to be cleared off the line by Alex Athanasi to keep the game at 0-0. The only goal of the game followed shortly after when Andreas Sheritis played through Jordan Shaw and he superbly slide the ball under the onrushing Brotherhood goalkeeper.
Although Brotherhood came out quickly in the second half they still struggled to break through the Pendayia backline and after going down to 10 men with 10 minutes to go in the game, the home side held on and now advance to the Quarter Finals to play Convoy FC who beat fellow KOPA team Anorthosis 6-1
Koture FC 1 Cetinkaya Cinar 3
A game played in atrocious conditions, but that wasn’t going to stop these two teams compete for every blade of grass that was left.
Cinar took the lead after 8 minutes when the ball was headed on for Marcus Samuals who lost the Koture defender and sped on and fired low for 0-1. In the 22nd minute Cinar made it 0-2 as Sheldon Hussey headed unmarked a Evren Altinok corner. Koture pulled one back late in the second half. The second half saw Cinar step it up, but they squandered a number of chances. However their pressure paid off in the 70th minute when Marcus laid a pass into the path of Sub Tarik kucuk who tapped in Cinar’s third with his very first touch. Koture rallied and desperately tried to get back into the game but Cinar defended superbly and kept them at bay for a superb win.
Anorthosis 1 Convoys FC 6
Anorthosis lost the chance to play their fellow KOPA team Pendayia in the quater finals of the LFA Intermediate Cup by losing to Convoys FC 6-1 at Bullsmoor Lane.
