The island’s justice minister Loucas Louca on Monday said the government is exerting pressure by diplomatic means in a bid to secure the release of three police officers who were illegally detained by Turkish troops in the UN buffer zone yesterday.

But he said so far there has been no development on the matter.

The justice minister noted that investigations have shown that the illegal arrest took place within the UN buffer zone.

Speaking after Monday’s military parade, Louca said that the three policemen will be taken before a so-called “military court” in the illegally occupied areas on Tuesday.

The three police officers were illegally detained on Sunday in the UN Buffer Zone in the Louroujina area whilst in pursuit of a pickup truck registered in the illegally occupied areas.

The occupation regime forces confiscated the police officers’ weapons, portable radio transceivers and vehicles.

According to reports, Police telecoms experts were called in immediately in a bid to block any external interference to the police’s radio transceiver network.
