A|baby was thrown several meters down the road in front of its mother after its pram was hit by a car in New Barnet on Friday.
Passers-by said they were horrified when they saw a silver jaguar strike the pram as it was pushed crossed a zebra crossing on the southbound lane of East Barnet Road at around 9.45am on friday.
The baby boy escaped unhurt despite the pram rolling
at least 10 meters along the road before being scooped up by its distraught mother.
Borie Borie, 33, of the Dollis Valley Estate, Barnet and James Crawford, 32, of East Barnet Road had been walking when they saw the driver, believed to be in his 80s crash into the pram.
“I wanted to go and check on the baby but James said he couldn’t bear to as he has daughter,” said Mr Borie.
Marlon Medway, who owns motorbike dealership Bikestrobe said he was in the shop when he heard a scream. As he ran into the street he saw the silver Jaguar continuing south on East Barnet Road, clipping a white van that was driving in the opposite direction, before getting stuck in traffic.
“We ran over and got the driver out of the car and took the keys out of the car,” he told The Press. “He wouldn’t get out for ages and we had to ask him quite nicely. When the police came they had him in the van for ages and then apparently they let him drive away.
“The baby’s mother was just freaking out. It was lucky that it totally stayed in the pram.”
A spokeswoman for London Ambulance service said it was called to the scene where it treated the infant before taking him and his mother to Barnet Hospital as a precaution.
A police spokesman said: “ Police were called to East Barnet Road at 9.45am following reports of a collision between a car, a van and a pram. No serious injuries were reported.”
