A row of cherished olive trees along a street in Wood Green town centre were snapped in half in an apparent outbreak of vandalism last week

The four young trees outside the Big Green Bookshop in Brampton Park Road, were damaged beyond repair sometime around 9am on September 20.

Police were called to the scene and arrested a woman, aged 34, on suspicion of criminal damage. She was bailed until November 14.

The trees were planted at a cost of £1,000 a number of years ago after a local residents’ association secured funding from Haringey Council.

Posting on social networking site Twitter, Big Green Bookshop owner Simon Key said: “You don’t see many olive trees in Wood Green and all of us made sure that they were looked after.”

Another user wrote: “Poor show. How pointless and depressing.”
