A 60 year old bus conductor was targeted by robbers late last night in Larnaca.

According to reports, a black-clad man attacked the 60 year old man — spraying him in the face with an aerosol — before stealing his briefcase which contained the bus company’s takings amounting to 250 euros in change.

The robbery occurred as the bus conductor was leaving work for his car in the bus parking area at Larnaca International Airport.

In another incident, masked man robbed a bakery in the Nicosia suburb Engomi in the early hours of this morning.

The robber threatened the shop assistant at knife point and stole all of the shop’s takings, which have not yet been estimated.

Meanwhile, the home of the island’s assistant police chief Lambros Themistocleous was targetted by burglars in the early hours of the morning.

Themistocleous was also attacked during the incident.

According to a police report, at approximately 2am, a burglar broke into Themistocleous’ home in Nicosia and stole keys worth 40 euros, and then attempted to steal a television from the living room.

The owners of the house disturbed the burglar, and a scuffle ensued between the assistant police chief and the thief.

The burglar attacked Themistocleous — who sustained facial injuries and blows to the rest of his body — before fleeing the scene.

Police later arrested a 33 year old Greek national from Georgia. They found the stolen keys in his possession.

The assistant police chief was treated at Nicosia General Hospital for his injuries.
