Cypriot Paralympic swimmer Karolina Pelendritou took the silver medal in the 100m SB12 breast-stroke category on Saturday.
Pelendritou, who had qualified for the final with the best time, took second place behind Azerbaijan’s Natali Pronina who secured a world record finish of 1:16.12. The Cypriot swimmer, who took gold in Athens 2004 and Beijing 2008 – finished with a time of 1:16.38. Third place and the bronze went to the Ukraine’s Yaryna Matlo.
Cyprus’ other athletes, runner Antonis Aresti and air pistol shooter Evripides Georgiou, both failed to make the final in their respective events.
