A funeral service for Michael Pio Tzouvanni who tragically lost his life at the age of 24 in a Thailand nightclub fire was held  Tuesday 4th September 2012 at St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Palmers Green.

Over a thousand people attended the service to pay their final respects to Michael, who was a well known and respected member of our community. Both the church and the hall next door where the funeral service was screened live, were packed with family members and friends.

Moving tributes were made by Michael’s brothers Elias, Solomon, Andy, Joseph, Franco and sister Sharbelina. Readings and prayers were given by close friends Dino Costas, Simon Anthony and Theo Ioannou.

The funeral was attended by Father Andreas Hadjisavvis of St John the Baptist Greek Orthodox Church in Wightman Road and other dignitaries. Parikiaki was represented by Michael Yiakoumi, and AKEL by its Organising Secretary Neophytos Nicolaou and Member of the Secretariat Michael Michalakis. Also present was veteran journalist Kyriakos Tsioupras.

Michael was born on 4th July 1988 to Fofi and Maroulla Tzouvanni. He attended St Monica’s Primary School, followed by Southgate School. He then went on to study Building Surveying at Northumbria University. He worked for Terence Charles Estate Agents where he went from junior salesman to a partner for the construction arm of the company within an incredible two years.

Michael was a founder member and player of Maronites FC, playing in the Cypriot Football League (KOPA) UK, together with his brothers Solomon, Andy, Joseph and Franco.

Michael’s life ambition was to build an orphanage in a developing country to change the lives of those less fortunate. Michael’s family wish to continue and complete this dream and kindly request that all those who were unable to attend the funeral and wish to make a donation, can do so by sending a cheque made payable to ‘The Little and Large Charitable Trust’, to Little N Large, 3 Chase Side, London N14 5BP. Donations can also be made online to HSBC Sort Code 40-07-32 Account No 91391372 using ‘Michael’s Orphanage’ as a reference.
