Silver Paralympic winner Karolina Pelendritou was welcomed Saturday evening by fellow swimmers and other people in her hometown, the coastal city of Limassol, in the southern shores of Cyprus.
Pelendritou won the silver medal in women’s 100m breaststroke SB12, in the London Paralympic Games 2012.
The athlete arrived at the Limassol Nautical Club holding the Cypriot flag and was warmly received by the crowd that was gathered there.
LNC Vice President said in a speech, Pelendritou has managed to win for Cyprus a Paralympics medal for the third time in a row, displaying great discipline and will, along her passion for swimming.
The Paralympic winner thanked all people who came to welcome her, noting that she shares her medal and her joy with her athletic instructors and all those teaching her not just how to be a good athlete but also a good person.
Addressing the younger athletes present at the event, Pelendritou said “nothing can be achieved without hard work” and added that championship requires that “we manage to overcome ourselves and give our one hundred percent, not just to sports, but to society as well”.
