New Salamis 2 Rizokarpasso 1
Champions New Salamis who were playing their first game of the season had a very difficult game versus Rizokarpasso at Broxbourne Stadium. It was a very exciting game loads of action with good one to one chances being missed by both sides. Anthony Macdonald and Ben Andréa missing for Rizokarpasso and Dennis Mehmet for New Salamis.
The deadlock was not broken until the second half in the 50th minute with a tap in from Richard Georgiou for New Salamis but it did not take long for Rizokarpasso to equalise with a goal from Mike Vazanias.
There was action in both teams’ goal mouths before Dennis Mehmet late in the game stroked the ball past the oncoming Rizokarpasso keeper Zourtos to give New Salamis a decisive win.
Dynamo 0 Apoel 4
Dynamo coming into this game after a good win last week versus Rizokarpasso surprisingly lost to Apoel who after this win lead the first division after two weeks. Dynamo were chasing the game through the final 45 minutes after coming into the second half 0-0. Apoel’s goals came from new signing Kyri Kyprianou 2 and Richard Worrall two goals.
Cetinkaya Cinar 1 Olympia 2
Newly promoted Olympia under new manager ex New Salamis boss George Georgiou are riding high after their second consecutive win in as many games beating tough opposition Cetinkaya Cinar.
All the action took place in the second half with Cetinkaya taking the lead with a goal from Cinar super striker Josh Djelal. One of the goals was a classic from defender Vince Rispoli who took the ball from defence and dribbled past three Cinar players before hitting a 25 yard blaster straight into the back of the net. Olympia increased their lead in the 74th minute with a great strike from Irhan but had a late scare when Cetinkaya Cinar hit the post with a good shot from Evren.
Aradippou (AEL) 5 Brotherhood 3
Brotherhood that are now playing under new manager Chris Yiannakas showed a massive improvement to last week and played some very good football. It was great game to watch for the neutrals with eight goals scored and lots of action.
Aradippou scored the first goal and then Brotherhood led 2-1 before Aradippou replied to winning at one stage 5-2 before Brotherhood scoring a third goal near the end making it 5-3 to Aradippou (AEL) and keeping them at the top sharing the same points with Apoel and Olympia.
Second Division
Komi Kebir 4 Omonia 0
Omonia need to get their act together they got a good set of players all very talented and all they need now is somebody to organise them and you will see them climbing up the table.
On Sunday against Komi Kebir they came up against a well organised team who played a nice passing game and were down a goal within 15 minutes when Andy Kyprianides scored from a 35 yard free kick, Jason Lambri added a second when he tapped the ball in from a cross. The best goal was the third from Andrea Economides who cut back the ball and then stroked the ball into the corner of the net. Andrea scored his second and fourth goal for Komi with a right footed shot to give Komi Kebir a comfortable 4-0 win.
Arachne 2 Achna 1
Arachne continue their unbeaten run with a 2-1 win over Achna they nearly got caught out though with a comfortable 2-0 half time lead when they let themselves to slow down in the second half and nearly allowed Achna back into the game.
Arachne led from the 15th minute with a goal from Anthony Panayi who also added a second in the 40th minute Anthony and Leo Charalambous were a constant threat to the Achna rearguard.
In the second half Achna upped the tempo and scored just after the break with a fine strike from Andrew Stylianou. Arachne were playing a good passing game nice to watch. This win puts Arachne in top spot level with Livadia.
Both teams Keepers Arachne’s Aidan Lynch and Achna’s Nick Procopiou played exceptionally well.
Asha 2 Anorthosis 0
Anorthosis another big side with worries two games into the season, their second defeat on the trot when they lost to newcomers Asha who are unbeaten in their two games so far this season. It’s great to see newly formed Asha in their first season in the league off to a good start giving encouragement to new clubs wanting to join the KOPA League.
Asha were two nil up within the first half hour the first from Angelos when he tapped the ball into the net from a well taken corner.
The second from Luke who lobbed the oncoming Anorthosis goal keeper.
Livadia 2 Pendayia 0
A hard fought game between two of the leagues promising young sides saw Pendayia travel to Donkey Lane to play Livadia, with the home team edging the game 2 goals to none.
Despite carving out a number of chances and dominating possession for most of the game Pendayia once again let minor mistakes prevent them from taking any points from this encounter with the Livadia keeper Mario Hitra playing a blinder. Centre half Richard Strickland headed Livadia into the lead in the first half when a corner, not properly cleared by the visitors, was floated back into the back post allowing Richard to sneak in and nod home. After being held to some half chances and forcing the Livadia goalkeeper into making some good saves, the home team extended their lead shortly before the end of the game when a good shot from Luke Demetriades handed Livadia their second game in as many weeks.
LFA Junior Cup
Cultural FC 3 Pantel 3 (Cultural won 4-3 after extra time).
Pantel in a hard fought battle versus Cultural in Croydon ended up going into extra time Pantel’s goals were scored by Anthony Aristides and Andrew Kitibos.
