Marcos’ US Open campaign came to an end on Friday evening in New York as he was beaten 6-4, 3-6, 6-0, 7-6(5) by Ukrainian No. 14 seed Alexandr Dolgopolov.

After surrendering the first set by one break of serve, Marcos was quick to hit back at his opponent, breaking for a 3-1 lead in the second set before levelling the match. However, a run of seven straight games for Dolgopolov saw the Ukrainian take a commanding lead in the encounter.

Marcos composed himself well and had two chances to send the match into a deciding set. But he failed to close out the fourth set when serving at 5-4 and 6-5, and paid the price in the ensuing tie-break as Dolgopolov claimed victory in two hours and 30 minutes.
