Cypriot Minister of Foreign Affairs Erato Kozakou Markoullis met on Monday in New York with Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kirgizia Isayev Asein Kuseinovich, with whom she raised the issue of the arrest of Erhan Arikli by the authorities of Kirgizia.

The Cypriot Minister pointed out the seriousness of the murder case for which he is wanted and the gravity of the extradition request.

Markoullis said Cyprus expected Kirgizia to cooperate with the authorities of the Republic of Cyprus and not allow his departure from the country until all legal procedures for his extradition have been completed.

She asked Kuseinovich to inform the authorities of his country about the official request of the Republic of Cyprus.

Markoullis discussed with Kuseinovich ways to enhance bilateral relations and relations between the EU and Kirgizia, and briefed him on the latest developments in the Cyprus problem.

An international arrest warrant has been issued against Arikli, a Turkish national who also holds the “citizenship” of the illegal Turkish Cypriot regime, in connection with the murder of a Greek Cypriot, Tasos Isaac, brutally murdered in August 1996 during an anti occupation rally.
