An island-wide Police operation to crack down on betting shops that have failed to comply with new legislation kicked off on Wednesday night.

Police inspected nine betting shops, 3 in the Famagusta district, 2 in Paphos, 2 in Limassol and 2 in Larnaca.

According to police reports, police officers discovered and seized 8 computers, 8 printers and 1,623 euros.

Nine people were charged in writing and will be summoned at a later date.
