Cypriot title contenders Anorthosis and Omonia both got their campaigns off with five-goal winning starts on the weekend while APOEL and AEL get their first games underway on Monday night against Enosis Neon Paralimniou and Doxa respectively.
Neophytos Larkou’s Omonia secured an easy 5-0 win over newcomers Ayia Napa at the GSP Stadium with all goals arriving after halftime.
Fabeta got the ball rolling for Omonia when he turned past his own keeper before Leandro doubled the lead on 58 minutes. It was 3-0 moments later as Demetris Christofi fired a powerful strike past Polish keeper Maciej Zajac. Andreas Avraam and a penalty from Freddy completed the rout for the hosts.
Anorthosis were also celebrating on the weekend after beating AEP 5-1 at the Antonis Papadopoulos Stadium.
Juliano Spadacio opened the scoring on 25 minutes with a header after a cross from Toni Calvo and the Spanish midfielder was in the mix of things again just before halftime after teeing up Yiannis Okkas.
Calvo turned goalscorer after the restart scoring number three before Spadacio grabbed his second of the night.
Jan Rezek made it 5-0 on 71 minutes before Silas scored a late consolation goal for the Paphos club in time added on.
In the Larnaca derby, Nestoras Mytides scored the only goal on 39 minutes as AEK beat Alki 1-0 while Olympiakos Nicosia fought back to beat Nea Salamina 2-1 and Apollon Limassol beat Ethnikos Achnas 2-0.
