Thirteen officials from Paralmini council have been arrested on suspicion of defrauding the municipality in a beach beds scam.
The 13 face a series of charges after it was claimed that they conned nearly half a million euros by failing to hand in fees collected for beach beds and umbrellas.
Suspicions were raised after collections dropped dramatically following a new system of collecting the fees. Another officer was assigned to take collection and the income suddenly rocketed fourfold.
It is believed that the alleged scam has been operating for around three years.
