A CONSERVATIVE councillor has been bailed following his arrest on suspicion of common assault.

Totteridge ward member Brian Coleman was arrested in connection with an alleged attack on a woman in Finchley High Road on Thursday afternoon.

Mr Coleman lost his Camden and Barnet Greater London Assembly seat to Labour’s Andrew Dismore on May 4 this year, and a week later was replaced as cabinet member for environment by Tory councillor Dean Cohen.

He is now chairman of the budget and performance overview and scrutiny committee.

A police spokesman said: “A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with a common assault. He has been bailed to attend a north London police station in late October pending further enquiries.”
