Olympiakos, Asteras Tripolis (photo above) and Panionios doubled their victories in the Super League over the weekend to top the soccer table after the first couple of rounds.
The Reds defeated visiting Levadiakos 4-0 on Sunday evening thanks to two goals by Rafik Djebbour and one each by Dimitris Siovas and Yiannis Maniatis, in their first home game of the season.
Asteras Tripolis thrashed Kerkyra at home on Sunday with a 3-0 score courtesy of second-half goals by Emanuel Perrone and Christos Pipinis as well as a Jan Hable own goal.
Panionios scored an important 1-0 away win at Veria on Saturday. Costas Mendrinos was on target for the Nea Smyrni club.
Panathinaikos stumbled at home against PAS Giannina on Friday but the 1-1 result hardly does the game any justice. The Greens, who have grave complaints from the referee, opened the score with Sema Velazquez but Tomas De Vincenti equalized with a spectacular strike. Costas Katsouranis left Panathinaikos with 10 men after abusing the referee early in the second half. The Greens launched a fresh attack on the league and the federation through a statement.
Xanthi grabbed its first win this season by beating sinking AEK 1-0 on Saturday. The Thrace team had Marko Markovski to thank for his goal, while AEK played the last 20 minutes with 10 men after the dismissal of Nikos Kourellas.
Platanias scored its first ever victory in the top flight by defeating fellow new boys Panthrakikos at Iraklio, where the Chania team is playing its home games for the time being. Ilias Anastasakos and Markos Marangoudakis scored for Platanias’s 2-0 triumph on Saturday.
Aris and OFI were unable to score for a second weekend in succession, sharing a 0-0 draw in Thessaloniki.
